india-roots-taj-mahal-mahatma-gandhi

true spirit of India - Taj Mahal, Bollywood Dance, Saffron, White, People of different cast ,color and creed ....reminds me of one great man respected Mahatma Gandhi and his words "ishvar allaah tere naam sabako sanmati de bhagavaan"

More on -Sir Mohan Das Karamchand Gandhi

The name "Gandhi" is synonymous with peace and non-violence. His epic struggle to bring together the people of India in their search for sovereignty is unparalleled. This great man's wisdom and foresight are compelling. Here are ten of the most powerful Gandhi quotes.

1. Strength
The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.
2. Government
What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans, and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty and democracy?
3. Self-Help
The only tyrant I accept in this world is the still voice within.
4. Government
It may be long before the law of love will be recognized in international affairs. The machineries of government stand between and hide the hearts of one people from those of another.
5. God
As soon as we lose the moral basis, we cease to be religious. There is no such thing as religion over-riding morality. Man, for instance, cannot be untruthful, cruel or incontinent and claim to have God on his side.
6. Life
There is more to life than simply increasing its speed.
7. Change
We must be the change we wish to see.
8. Self-Help
The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.
9. Truth
The moment there is suspicion about a person's motives, everything he does becomes tainted.
10. Wisdom
Suffering cheerfully endured, ceases to be suffering and is transmuted into an ineffable joy.

Vibha Dream Mile -10K run June 28 2009, Shoreline, Mountain View, CA

Vibha is a great organization for doing all the good stuff for underprivileged back in India and USA...I am fortunate to have lot of friends who closely work with Vibha for long time and constantly update me on their activities , projects and roles.

Always feels nice running for a cause and i decided to run this one and pre-registered for event.
Reached there on time and must give creadit to volunteer run organization for doing a superb job in terms of facilitating and arrangements at this event.

since this was my first 5K/10K event, i noticed that 5K/10K events are more kids, stroller, family and pets friendly and the atmosphere is more family fun unlike a little professional one in marathon events.

Shoreline is a well known place to me splly for my boating, kite flying, biking experiences during my early days in bay area.

Thugh the day of the run was hot and thats where i decided to wear my shades during the run and it really helped a great deal......the run went smooth with little churns and puring water on head wherever i could helped as well to bear the scortching heat.

The run completion was followed up by great food choices -fruits, indian food, fresh choice, award ceremony etc.

i caught with all my friends at Vibha and known faces and checked good stalls from poweraid, asha, sports basement, honest tea for another hour before heading back home.

was a good run, thanks to all vibha volunteers for arranging this event :)

cheers !!!

Half Dome Night Hilke -Yosemite, June 20, 2009

My avenue of the vines run did not go well and i thought of mixing my activities with something else and that is how i found my trainer Tim for half dome hike.

The hike pre-requisites were a good smile :), two conditioning hikes to Mission peak fremont, CA and the huge checklist for hiking gear..for me it was more like a new venture and i truly enjoyed shopping and looking around each gear from hiking poles to gloves, to carabiner to night head light and everything.

Tim was cool in explaining everything nicely and following up on every minute details alongwith his down to earth nice personal attitude.......Suresh, Rick, Trinh joined us for half dome hike as well and the weather did good justice to us.

We started our hike from curry village around 10Pm in the night with hour 8-10 pounds bags and hiking poles and gazing at stars and moon during the night hik was blissful :)

i can not explain the verity of night hike specially as there are very less people and you feel like exploring the untouched trails all by yourself.....it's completely different experience.

We took the hike slowly and all sharing our experiences, discussing life and things in general alongwith notice of Deers, snails, coyote, plants, stars, water falls here and there...... reached near the stairs around 5:00am ..was about morning when we decided to unwind a little and take an hour nap with our emergency blankets on for one hour.

After we woke up, it was a great clear dawn with spectacular, multi million dollar views of yosemite valley, glacier falls and every thing around..this is where we decided to click snaps up in every direction :)

Stairs towards the end and the cables was the most difficult part of half dome hike but was the most admiring, amusing, appreciative as well......this is where i felt for a moment that nature is just too powerful since the views from stairs were wonderful and i was getting all the kicks/energy [natural gatorade] looking those views :)

Cables are approximately 400 feet and were tough because of the lunges and constant push n pull one has to do for all 400ft distance at steep elevation of 70 degrees....but all of it is truly worht it coz there are no words to explain how you feel when you actually do it......well "you just feel like a rock star" :)

We reached up and we went well prepared with our food, hot chocolate/tea stuff as guided by Tim and we unwinded once again for our food break at the top of half dome...yeah right beautiful morning at the top of half dome, good food alongwith hot chocolate, tea..what else you want :-))

thanks to propane stove for heating up stuff.....we met more folks there chit chatted little bit, enjoyed views in each and every direction, took photographs in every angle and stayed there at the top for about 2 hours before we took the plunge to head back down to the curry village.

We came back at our own pace and enjoyed the high water levels at falls at different places, the water level was just spectacular and mist trail felt like canadian side of Niagara falls that day, all the other falls like vernal etc were just great.

The most difficult part while coming back was a flat walk from Happy Isle to curry village as it seemed too far...maybe coz the body and legs were tired and it looked like someone has increased this distance overnight...what a humbling experience :)

i took hot shower at curry village and commemorated my hike with beer and pizza :-)

Tim, Rick, Suresh, Trinh ...all were a wonderful people and a great group......and i enjoyed my half dome hike with them and looking forward for more.

Cheers

My Second Half Marathon -Lodi

oh well, oh well, oh well........should i even call this one a run ...well never thought how no shades, less cheerleaders, flat track, little less drink booths though around all vines and 100 degree F temperature can make life little difficult...am i whining... ofcourse i am , it wasn't one of my best experiences but i still tried my best as usual to run it down :-)

As always the pre-requisites were a good smile on my face, reaching at the venue before time...The venue this time was Woodbridge winery in Lodi and the "D" day was 17th May 2009.

i must confess that i had to walk in this run at lot of places because of the sheer heat and my mood that day ...well so what ...i tried...better next time...here are the results :

http://www.capitalroadrace.com/results/09_AOTV_HALF_OVL.HTM

Nothing can beat a good wine, good food after a run and i did enjoy that part in my complimentary wine glass ofcourse and meeting few of my fellow runners whom i truly enjoy.

as usual ...touched base with Janet, Karen, John, Debra, Scot, Tracy, Tony [man O man, what a energy, i think he was organizing this event and i must say he is a enthusiastic, energetic, tireless man]

Thanks all again and i am looking forward to join another training group with Janet/Karen on Aug 08, 2009 for my San Jose Rock n Roll scheduled in first week of october 2009.

cheers !!!

July 4th Independence Day 2009

Well after a hot start of week with temperature going up in high 80's and 90's, today was just a

beautiful dawn and i got up for my share of sight at 5:30Am in morning to take part in "10K run for independence at Elk Grove Regional Park , Elk Grove, CA.

The park was lush green and really liked the spirit of people, got a flag themed T-shirt for the run and watched kids starting from age group of 3-6 to 10-13 doing there run's with all zest and enthusiasm trying to catch the chicken.

The chicken was ofcourse another volunteer runner and kids were supposed to do better than him to get steak dinner and other goodies besides usual prizes for first three participants in all age groups.

Must mention here that the volunteer lady host who was doing the talking and had the mike was simply escatic and great for keeping the kids excited....really nice.

At around 8:20Am and we were called [all adults] before the start line and we followed wordsof an ex-military man towards paying our due respect to veterans, all ex-military man and all current soldiers working for our country. This was followed by beautiful verses of national anthem again ensuring that "we are the country of the free and the land of the brave" , it just sat the right mood for my run along with my i-phone set to play some energy boosting bollywood numbers.

The elkgrove park is huge and we pretty much ran in the park and here are my timings :

After the run the booths were all set for music, different stalls..KP, food for hunger, running zone, mc donalds, chicken a filet (they had a a person dressed in cow and oh yes he was doing his job, ensuring every kid around there get a pic with him..nice isn't it) to name a few and ofcourse free food for us.

Nothing tastes better than cream cheese bagel, orange and apple after a 10K run and not having any breakfast in morning.

Anyways, after finishing my hunger , i strolled through stalls, exchanged wishes for independence day, smiles and sat for listening some good music, verses of bible and just feeling the spirit of independence.

untill i heard the verses of bible from singer for "salt and light" and it just made my day as it said that like salt without saltiness is nothing , like light without light.....and a christian is similarly nothing without being good to others, making a positive difference in society and it just sunk with me so well for good 10-15 minutes and felt that i should definitely make a difference in this world however possible.... [reminded myself again :-)]

of course the other numbers like sweet alabama were also nice.....and with all these thoughts i was back on 99 heading Sacramento to check an investment property, followed by buying some stuff before i ended up back at home and took a good afternoon nap.

To end the day in true spirit, i followed up to for my hometown fireworks event in Tracy high stadium, Tracy, CA..yeah thats where i live and love it totally :) [need i mention....the only city in sanjoqauin county to have fireworks, good job city folks for surplus budget in this economy and thanks to Brent Ives] to celebrate 4th of July, Independence day, 2009......"Happy Independence Day" every one !!!

cheers !!!
